Sun Pictures has announced their next film, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson, on February 10, 2022. It was tentatively titled Thalaivar 169 as Rajinikanth’s 169th film. On 17 June 2022, the title Jailer was released, with posters showing Nelson as the sole screenwriter, contradicting prior reports that Ok. S. Ravikumar could be penning the screenplay from a narrative by Rajinikanth. Vijay Karthik Kannan is in charge of cinematography, and R. Nirmal is in charge of editing. This also marks Nelson’s first cooperation with Rajinikanth.
According to reports, Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar would be seen in a major role in May 2022. The following month, that notion was confirmed. It is Shiva Rajkumar’s first film in Tamil. Vasanth Ravi’s involvement in the film was revealed in early August. Soon after, Ramya Krishnan confirmed her involvement on August 10, while Malayalam actor Vinayakan confirmed his participation on August 23.
